FSAs and HSAs are programs offered by employers that allow you to set aside pre-tax funds for eligible health care expenses, including prescription eyewear.
FSA is a “use it or lose it” plan that runs January 1-December 31. The funds must be used by the end of the year or else you lose your money. Buying glasses at Zenni is a great way to use up extra FSA money.
HSA money rolls over indefinitely and can even be used for health care expenses in retirement. Using your HSA for glasses is a great way to save money, since the funds are taken out of your paycheck before taxes.
Common uses for FSA and HSA funds: health exams, eye exams, medical co-pays, medications, and prescription glasses.
Can you buy glasses with HSA and FSA money?
Yes! Our prescription glasses are HSA and FSA eligible. Don’t know your prescription? Your HSA and FSA money can be used to help pay for an eye exam. Once you have your prescription, you can easily use our virtual glasses try-on and select a pair (or two!) of our eyeglasses.
Can I use my FSA or HSA for prescription sunglasses?
Of course! Prescription sunglasses are also eligible under FSA or HSA money. Browse through our trendy sunglasses frames or choose your favorite frame and add a sunglass tint or finish to your prescription.
Using FSA or HSA for eye care accessories
You’ll need to take proper care of your glasses, so FSA and HSA money can be applied to eye care accessories including cleaning cloths, nose pads, repair and spray kits.
Are there FSA or HSA purchase limits for eyeglasses?
As long as you have the funds, you can buy as many pairs of prescription glasses or sunglasses as you like. If you have money saved at the end of the year, make sure you use your FSA for your next glasses purchase so your money doesn’t go to waste!
